PM: Army Must Stop Using GT200

UPDATE : 19 February 2010
The prime minister insists the controversial GT200 bomb detection devices be removed from military service, adding that the government is considering whether legal action can be taken against the manufacturers.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has demanded that the Armed Forces stop using the GT200 remote substance detectors, after scientific test results proved the devices do not function effectively.
He called on the military to respect the test result, which is consistent with those conducted by foreign agencies. The prime minister spoke in response to Army Chief General Anupong Paojinda's comment, which confirmed the performance of the GT200. Acknowledging that no devices may be used as substitute for GT200, Abhisit suggested the Army change its work method and continue security operations without the GT200 bomb detectors. The prime minister urged the Science and Technology Ministry to clarify with military officers about GT200's functionality, since to continue using the defective devices might pose major risks to users. He went on to say that the government is consulting the law to see if a lawsuit can be filed against the manufacturers, and will expedite a probe into irregularities in the procurement process.
