The Prime Minister announced that an ad hoc panel will be set up to probe into alleged graft in the Interior Ministry, while stressing the need for a thorough investigatation.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva revealed he has not set up a fact-finding committee to look into alleged irregularities in the recruitment of district chiefs under the Interior Ministry, as he is waiting for information from the Public Section Anti-Corruption Commi

He added that Interior Minister, Chaovarat Chanweerakul promised to discuss the issue at today's weekly Cabinet meeting. The Premier went on to say he will study the report submitted by the Interior Minister and stressed that authorities must investigate the issue, as it has seriously tarnished the Ministry's credibility. He said he has not been informed if politicians are involved in the scandal, but he believes that many parties will be found to be in connection with the case. He also played down a remark that civil servant reshuffles always involve corruption and complaints and that it is not fair to blame only state officials. The premier said it is the right of the Chairman of a committee in the Interior Ministry, Saksiam Chidchob, to file charges against the Chief of Inspectors-General of the Interior Ministry, Chadura Apichartbutr, for revealing the scandal. However, he stressed that the chief will not be found guilty if his action benefited the general public. The premier concluded by saying that the issue needs to be brought up and discussed to prevent a repeat of similar scandals.
