Chuan Rebukes Attempt to Involve King in Crisis
Chief adviser to the Democrat Party, Chuan Leekpai, has publicly berated former prime ministers Genereal Chavalit Yongchaiyudh and Somchai Wongsawad over their attempt to make His Majesty the King intervene in the current political crisis, calling the move inappropriate.
The Democrat chief adviser disapproved the move by both Pheu Thai Party chairman General Chavalit Yongchaiyudh and former People Power Party head Somchai Wongsawad to petition for an audience with the King.
During a press conference on Monday, it was made clear the two planned to plead for His Majesty's intervention to resolve the current political crisis.
Chuan, himself a former prime minister, stated that the two should have considered the propriety of their idea and discussed it with the Bureau of the Royal Household before declaring it to the public.
He noted also that the Pheu Thai chief would take a more active role in countering attacks on the royal institution.
The Democrats senior voiced support for Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, encouraging him to uphold the law in rectifying the situation, reminding him that the international community is watching his decision closely.
Chuan has expressed opposition to House dissolution, saying that it will not serve as a way out from the nation's current problems.
