Progress on Pattani's Double Blast

Police have made further progress in the investigation on the bomb attack at Muang Pattani police station and a car bomb which left one dead and more than 60 injured.

Pattani Provincial Police chief, Police Major General Pichet Pitisethphan has disclosed that authorities have made considerable progress on the bombing investigation, stating that there were no less than five to six suspects involved in both attacks.

Police stated that the car bomb suspects placed two types of bombs in the area.

The first one was detonated by a remote signal and the other, a time bomb, was set for two hours after the first blast, intending to kill more security officers inspecting the first crime scene.

The suspects also placed RPG rockets in the car to make the blast deadlier. Fortunately, the RPG detonation mechanism malfunctioned.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects are affiliated with local insurgent leader, Masorae Deurama.

The car used in the attack was a blue Toyota Vios sedan which was re-painted bronze and was provided by a man named Abdul-Kalim, who bought the car from Phuket province and had previously used it for a bomb attack in Sungaigo-lok district.

The car bomb damaged many nearby businesses including Ao Thai Pharmacy.

Today, employees came in and started to clear the debris from the store. Store owner, Jakapong Yongpiriyakul said everyone in the store are still traumatized by the blast but the store will continue to open, and he urged all involved parties to tighten security in the area.

Meanwhile in Narathiwat proivnce, a gunman has shot a Yi-Ngor school teacher, Yongyut Watcharapinchai and left his friend Sophon Apisupap critically injured.

The victims have been rushed to the Narathiwat Hospital. Investigations revealed that two suspects were on a motorcycle and shot the two victims while they were cycling on Petchkasem Road.
