Public Opposition Growing against Red-shirt Protests
Various public groups across the country continue to voice their opposition to the red-shirt demonstrations and are showing their support for the government and peacekeeping forces.
Over 500 people from Narathiwat's Muslim and Buddhist communities have gathered to urge the red-shirt leaders to discontinue the demonstrations and enter talks with the government so that a compromise can be reached.
In Songkhla province, a representative of over 1,000 people came out and read a statement denouncing former prime ministers Somchai Wongsawat and General Chavalit Yongchaiyudh for their attempt to involve His Majesty the King in the current political crisis.
Group members also voiced their moral support for Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and peacekeeping forces for their efforts to restore peace.
Khon Kaen's Facebook community arranged a gathering with over 600 participants, including entrepreneurs, state officials and local vendors who came out to urge the prime minister to endure the pressure from the red-shirt people as well as use legal means to end the demonstrations with as little damage as possible.
At Phitsanulok's Naresuan University, members of the public have gathered to oppose House dissolution and show their support for the peacekeeping forces.
The group will travel to Phitsanulok provincial hall tomorrow to voice their wish for peace in the country.
