Former PM Surayud to Return Controversial Land Plot

Privy Council member and former prime minister, General Surayud Julanont, has agreed to return the disputed Kao Yai Thiang land to the Royal Forestry Department in the hopes of preventing further conflicts.
A source close to the former prime minister and Privy Council member, General Surayud Julanont reported that he is willing to return the controversial plot of land at Kao Yai Thiang to the Royal Forestry Department, in an effort to stop the ongoing conflicts.

However, the former prime minister said that he will act upon an official notification from the department.

The same source also revealed that General Surayud is today joining a weekly Privy Council meeting, chaired by Privy Council chief and statesman, General Prem Tinsulanonda.

At the meeting they will reportedly discuss the protest being carried out by the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship, or DAAD, at Kao Yai Thiang amongst other things.

General Surayud reportedly said he can respond to only one request by the DAAD, which is to return the land to the Royal Forest Department. However, he noted that the DAAD's call for his resignation as Privy Council member cannot be met as the two matters are irrelevant.

He asserted that the DAAD is trying to connect his land case to the one involving fugitive ex-premier, Thaksin Shinawatra so as to attack the government using different standards in both cases.

Also Today, Surayud will preside over a press conference about the socially conscious concert, which will be held at Kao Tai in Nakhon Ratchasima province on January 23.
