The Navy commander has announced readiness to help earthquake victims in Haiti as soon as the government gives the go-ahead.
Navy chief Admiral Kamthorn Pumhirun said the Navy is prepared to help out with efforts to clean up Haiti after a seven-magnitude earthquake struck it on Tuesday.
However, the Thai government has not yet issued any formal order on this.
The Navy commander noted that the Air Force may be able to deliver help quicker but the Navy will be on standby if its action is needed and will monitor all international disasters closely.
He reassured readiness of the military in dealing with any kind of natural disasters in Thailand, particularly a tsunami as equipment and a warning system are in place and drills are held regularly.
