The prime minister has urged the Forestry Department to proceed immediately according to the prosecution order to drop all charges against Privy Council member and former prime minister General Surayud Julanont in an alleged illegal forest reserve encroachment, in a bid to defuse political tensions.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva called for immediate action from the Forestry Department, to follow the Office of Attorney-General's decision not to prosecute Privy Council member and former prime minister General Surayud Julanont on the alleged illegal ownership of forest reserve land on Khao Yai Thiang.
He said he wants the issue to be settled as soon as possible to avoid further political conflicts.
Abhisit also observed that the protest by the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship may become more intense ahead of the Supreme Court's hearing to hand down a verdict on the case of fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's 76-billion-baht asset freeze.
However, he stated that the security task force will need to evaluate the situation before making a decision on whether the enforcement of the Internal Security Act is necessary.
