PM: Multiple-seat Constituency Reduces Political Business

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has expressed support for a multiple-seat constituency, as he believes it can reduce political business and competition between candidates.

Meanwhile, he maintained that charter rewrite will not put relations betw
een the Democrat Party and the coalition parties in jeopardy. Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said he supports a multiple-seat constituency, which was proposed by his party when the 2007 Constitution was being drafted. Abhisit favours the multiple-seat constituency over the single-seat constituency because the former reduces political business and competition among candidates as well as the chance of rifts between them. Regarding disagreement between his party and the coalition parties over charter rewrite, he said it is not a cause for concern as it is simply a difference in opinion in democratic society. He gave assurance that the disagreement will not become an obstacle and prevent them from working together. Meanwhile, Deputy PM on national security and secretary general to the Democrat Party, Suthep Thaugsuban, said the disagreement over charter rewrite is a side issue and his party and the coalition parties have a much important task at hand, which is to solve political uncertainty. He revealed that he will engage with coalition parties to reconcile their disagreement. He added that the date of the next social function to be held by the Social Action Party is yet to be confirmed.
